Elaborate monopoly, play say monopoly

Text/Dai Zheng

Intel CEO Paul Otellini irony when competitors in the North the speech recently, once miss the speed of the Intel blamed the company's monopoly. And noted that in the past several years, a large number of enterprises in the fierce competition in the semiconductor industry dies, only have good products business to survive.

As we all know, Intel the world's largest competitor is the AMD, so the subtext is self-evident.

Competition between Intel and AMD, is like a car rally, is a covered market, technology, product, channel, a full range of contest. The difference is, car rally at least the end, while Intel and AMD, afraid of century-old shop are wrapped around a pipe.

In 2006, Intel had lost to AMD, once 9% lost market share. So, I understand what Paul Otellini, comparison between the two sides and is not intent at the product level, and more from the perspective of public relations and PR, to qualitative and competitive.

Recently, AMD announced its code-named "Shanghai," the 45 nanometer quad-core Opteron processors listed. Response to this, Intel is publishing new processors Core I7. Simply do not know whether the Core I7 comparison between the new quad-core AMD Opteron processor-a number of properties associated with HPC workloads record, AMD has created:

? In 2-way server SPECfp ? _rate2006 test, floating point computing throughput 34% higher performance than the competition;

? In the 2-way server STREAM benchmark tests, 51% higher memory bandwidth performance than the competition;

? In FLUENT 12 beta 2 Server (ANSYS) tests, running faster than competitors about 65%;

? In the 2-way servers in LSDYNA MPP971s testing, more than 30% higher performance than the competition;

So, while "Shanghai" specific indicator not published, but as people in the industry, as the mass consumer, should hold high the hands welcome and look forward to its launch!

Of course, following the last Intel CEO Paul Otellini's visit to China, after attacks on AMD, as CEO of the world's largest chip company another opponent, rhetoric a bit biased. Free competition, free markets, free enterprise, is the magic weapon of any market economy maintain the continued failure of sth

Finally, talk about topics outside the monopoly--AMD its quad-core Opteron processor as "Leopard" (Jaguar) power, which is the world's first break the petaflops mark floating point computing, based entirely on X86 super computer. AMD Opteron processors are now the world's top 10 Super 7 provides powerful computing power in a computer system.

Behind for the time being does not mean permanent backward step is in order to better take three steps back. Hope that AMD and Intel in fair competition with each other, through technology, product innovation to promote industrial development and, ultimately, benefit to the majority of the market and users!
